Energy – September, 2005

During the days following the Equinox (the date when day and night are of equal length) more than 200 photographers located around the globe produced panoramic photographs with the theme of “Energy”.

Near Lelystad, The Netherlands

The Flevocentrale is a power plant on an island in the Ijsselmeer just north of Lelystad in the province of Flevoland.

The power plant on the left (Flevo 1 and 2) has been inactive since 1995 and there are plans to replace it with a new modern power plant soon. The gas turbine power station on the right is being used as emergency backup system for the power grid with a capacity of 124MW (originally it was able to provide 491MW).

On the dike you can see on both sides a large number of wind turbines. These belong to two wind farms with a total of 46 turbines. Each turbine has a capacity of 600 – 750 kW.
